ShareCoach Gregg Kennedy Returns to Cyclones
2015-04-24
The Upper Canada Cyclones are very pleased to announce the appointment of Gregg Kennedy as Head Coach of our Major Bantams for the 2015-16 season. Kennedy has been coaching hockey players for almost 35 years at every level from Initiation programs though Junior A and B, with two stints at Canadian Universities. He is perhaps best known though for his work in the OEMHL AAA where he is one of only two men who have coached in the league for all eight years of its existence. In five seasons spent with the Ottawa Senators AAA Association, two with the Ottawa Jr 67’s and one with our own Upper Canada Cyclones, Kennedy’s teams compiled a winning percentage over .700 in capturing three league crowns and four playoff championships. Kennedy returns to the Cyclone organization, where he coached the 2013-14 Minor Midgets, after winning a league championship and a bronze medal at the All Ontario Bantam Championship with the Ottawa Jr 67's last season.
Gregg is also very involved in coach and player development off the ice as a Hockey Canada Coaching Program Master Course Conductor, Master Field Evaluator, Master Mentor Coach, the Director of Long Term Player Development for Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO) and a Player Development leader in a number of associations throughout Eastern Ontario . He is also a former Technical Director of the Ottawa District Hockey Association (now HEO).. He has served on numerous national, provincial and branch level commi=tees for development including, most recently, the Hockey Canada working group for teaching checking.
Gregg’s résumé is long and sprinkled with numerous other short term high performance coaching positions including time spent with the National Men’s Team, the National Women’s Team, Provincial Under 17 Teams and Branch Under 16 and Under 14 teams. Gregg has even worked with our National Deaf Team! To top it off, Gregg is the co host of Grassroots, The Minor Hockey Show on TSN 1200 in Ottawa . Known as a player’s coach who strives hard to develop complete players and quality people, Gregg was recently awarded the OEMHL President’s Award as Volunteer of the Year and The Richard T Sennott HEO Development Award for outstanding contribution to coach development.
