2012 Tryout Planning has begun for Min Bantam, Maj Bantam and Min Midget

2012-01-12

The Upper Canada Cyclones will be running spring evaluations again in 2012.

The goal of spring evaluations is to provide a better opportunity for players to show case themselves, allowing coaches to make better decisions on which players are truly the best in our zone. Further, we will change the tryout time frame which in turn will allow AA/A and B rep tryouts a larger window in which to conduct their tryout processes.

The 2012 tryout process will be as follows:

Spring Conditioning Camp (mid April)

Spring Evaluation sessions (late April)

Spring Training Sessions (May)

Summer Conditioning Camp (Aug)

Tryouts (Aug)

Spring Conditioning Camp for Min Bantam (99), Maj Bantam (98), and Min Midget (97), will run mid April. 4 sessions for each level. Preference will be given to players who played AAA, then AA, then B rep. Cost of this Conditioning camp is yet TBD.

Spring Evaluations will be 4 sessions for each level in late April/early May. Cost TBA. These sessions are an evaluation of players to allow coaches to get a longer and more thorough look, in order to make better decisions on players in tryouts. Players must attend a minimum of 3 Spring Evaluation sessions to be considered for the Spring Training sessions.

Coaches will be selecting a minimum of 12 forwards, 8 Defence and 3 goalies. Coaches may select more players if they so choose.

These 23+ players will be required to attend the Spring Training Sessions (4 sessions per group) during the month of May 2012. Most sessions will be run by the coaches or attended by the coaches and run by a third party. The intent is to have a longer look at all of these players to be able to do a more thorough assessment of all attributes that make up a AAA hockey player. These sessions are mandatory. Cost TBA

Summer Conditioning Camp will be held in early August 2012 (6 sessions per group). Any player interested in attending, including those chosen for the summer training sessions, are welcome to register. Preference will be given to players who played AAA, then AA, then B rep. The format will be similair to previous years.

A final tryout will be run late August. Try Outs (4 sessions per group) in late August 2012. Try Outs will be completed by August 26th, 2012. Final releases from try outs can be made following the second Try Out session; all players will be given a minimum of 2 try out sessions and all releases will be made in the Upper Canada Cyclones home arenas.

After the final session, the final roster of 17-19 players will be selected. Any player, who was not invited to participate in the Spring Training sessions, is welcome to attend the Tryout in August. Their spring fee covers the August tryout as well. Any player who has not yet tried out must pay full tryout fee and may be released after two sessions.

Here is the fine print regarding tryouts.

- If you do not attend tryouts you will not be eligible to be selected for a UCC team

-
Exceptions will be looked at on an individual basis.

-There will be no refunds for tryout or conditioning camp fees, unless a serious medical issue arises and is confirmed with a doctor’s note.

- Early bird deadline for Spring Conditioning camp and Evaluations is 1 March 2012

- Payments must be received or postmarked by 1 March 2012, no exceptions.

The Executive has tried to think of all contingencies. If anyone has any questions, feel free to direct them to myself at [email protected]. I will attempt to answer your questions as quickly as possible.

Major Midget Tryouts

Maj Midget tryouts are conducted separately since most potential players, are also trying out for various Junior teams. This year will be no different. Maj Midget tryouts will be conducted during the first 3 weeks of Sept, with exact dates TBD. There will be about 6-7 sessions and the team will be finalized around 20 Sept.

The Cyclones Maj Midget program has been improving each year and 16-17 year old players are encouraged to consider Maj Midget AAA as a viable option to continue their hockey development. Our program is committed to developing players for Junior A hockey. As any scout will tell you, you need to actually play games as a 16 yr old. Players who are promised 3rd and 4th line roles on Jr. B teams are better off playing Maj Midget AAA, where they will see much more ice and development opportunity through games and practices.

The Cyclones organization is committed to working with any player who is offered an opportunity to affiliate and practice with a Jr. A team. We would encourage players in this situation to choose to play Maj Midget AAA instead of Jr. B. This choice will give a player a greater opportunity to play in key game situations and better develop their skills to be able to move into full time Junior A programs in the future.
