Major Peewee Welcome letter from the coach

2012-06-28

Please read letter from Dale Hein:

I am excited to welcome all players to the inaugural season of Major Peewee AAA . The Upper Canada Cyclones look to ice a very competitive team this year and I am privileged to have the opportunity to be head coach this season. With as many as five teams in the league, competition will be stiff but my expectations for this team and program will be high.

If one expects to compete for a spot on the team this year, it is imperative that one comes prepared. You should already be in to a sound and comprehensive off ice conditioning program which emphasizes aerobic conditioning, core development and strength training. As not all players are alike, your program should be customized if possible. A general all-purpose program is a great start but addressing any particular areas of weakness or injury can be achieved with just a little customization. And goalies especially need some customization. The team will have a strength and conditioning consultant and goalie consultant who will develop and implement off ice and on ice programs for the players this year.

Given Major Peewee AAA did not hold spring try outs please make note of the Cyclones conditioning program scheduled to start Wednesday August 8. This is not mandatory but will certainly be an excellent way to get your skates under you and prepare you for try outs (not to mention a good time to break in any new equipment).

The team will be formed by August 25 with try outs scheduled to begin August 16. Make sure you are registered with your home association to be eligible for AAA try outs. Our first tournament will be September 7-9 in Mississauga at the Co-Operators Cup giving us a chance to get on the road for some team building and measuring ourselves right away. Our three other tournaments this year look to be Big Nickel, Sudbury Nov 1-4, Quinte Cup in Belleville Dec 7-9 and Limestone City Cup in Kingston Jan 11-13.

We look to build a team that competes and works hard every night, never quits, exhibits excellent sportsmanship, respects players, coaches, referees and the game at all times, carries a team first mentality and has a ton of fun. We welcome all players to try outs – just be sure to come ready! It is going to be a great year.
